A Backyard Built for After Dark
The Tarkington backyard is built around one idea: fire and water together. A custom freeform gunite pool is anchored by a built-in linear fire feature with glass tile sides, flanked by an elevated glass tile spa with illuminated fountain jets and a sheer descent spillover. At dusk, the whole space is transformed by an LED lighting system tuned to bring out every surface.
Every element was designed as a unified composition — the fire feature isn't an accessory, it's an architectural centerpiece. This is what it looks like when a backyard stops being a yard and becomes a place you never want to leave.

How We Built the Tarkington Pool
Design & 3D Visualization
We opened the process with a full 3D design session so the Tarkington family could see exactly how light, water, and hardscape would interact before a single shovel hit the ground. The lighting placement was planned in the design phase — not retrofitted after the fact.
Gunite Shell & Water Systems
The pool and spa were shot with gunite by our own crews — not subcontracted. The water feature plumbing, filtration systems, and LED wiring were all installed as part of the initial shell phase to ensure clean integration with no exposed conduit or surface-mounted hardware.
Hardscape, Lighting & Finishing
The surrounding hardscape was built to complement the pool — not just frame it. Coping, decking, and stone details were specified to carry the design language across the whole backyard. The lighting program was dialed in on-site to create the exact evening mood the owners envisioned.
